The " Before Bach " project brings together Erik Marchand and Rodolphe Burger both share a taste for the unusual and the singular. Erik Marchand is a 'master' of Traditional Breton song with a well documented passion for the music of the Balkans and modal music. Rodolphe Burger, rock and blues singer and guitarist, producer and creator of the band Kat Onoma and the label Derniere Bande.
In their quest for unusual sounds and arrangements they launched the " Before Bach " project in 2004. A daring project to reveal the universitality of traditional music beyond the barriers of langage. The gamble has paid off and they have opened the doors to a new " genre " halfway between two worlds.
The album of the same name, enriched with rythm section, has taken them to a common ground, a new territory of expression where the well-honed modal music of Erik Marchand collides with Rodolphe Burger's rock and blues.
In 2021 the two return deeper again into the mines to extract new ideas, new exchanges projecting a new light on the relationship between Breton song of Erik Marchand and the energy of Rock and Roll of Rodolphe Burger. On stage they have around them two solist player : the oudiste Medhi Haddab from Algeria and Pauline Willerval young singer and Gadulka player nurtured by the turkish culture. For rhythmic they have Julien Perraudeau on keyboard and bass with Arnaud Dieterlen on drums.
