Biography
The singer and musician Julie Fowlis from the Hebrides Islands (North of Scotland) is a reference in the Gaelic music scene.
With numerous awards (‘Folk Act of the Year 2014’ at the Scots Trad Music Awards; BBC Award 2017…) she is the first solo Gaelic artist to win a Scottish Music Award in December 2014.
Her traditional folk songs, in English or Gaelic, add to her explorations into other musical genres and lead her to work with equally talented musicians such as the young fiddler Nicola Benedetti or the singers Aled Jones, James Taylor and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
In 2023, Julie Fowlis won “Musician of the Year” award at the Scots Trad Music Awards.
During her concerts, she is accompanied by famous musicians (Eamon Doorley, accordion; Calum Stewart, uilleann pipes/flute; Tony Byrne, guitar; Duncan Chisholm, fiddle) in quartet or quintet.
