Biography
With an indomitable aura, The Waterboys emerged on the music scene in 1983 shaping their legend under the charismatic direction of Mike Scott. With fifteen albums, the British band still resonates today as a timeless symphony, defying convention and leaving an indelible mark on the history of music.
The members of the band, past and present, are mainly Scottish and Irish. The band has traveled and made their home in various cities such as London, Dublin, An Spideal, New York and Findhorn. The band has dabbled in a variety of musical styles during its existence, but most of its music can be described as a mixture of Celtic folk music and rock ‘n’ roll, or folk rock. After ten years of recording and touring, the band broke up in 1993 and Mr. Scott pursued a solo career.
The band reformed in 2000, and resumed albums and concerts. The band’s leader himself emphasized a continuity between The Waterboys and his own work, saying, “To me, there is no difference between Mike Scott and The Waterboys; they both mean the same thing. They are both me and the people who accompany me on my musical tours.”
